Re: Slow speed/Inconsistent connection

Hi,

I'm don't think the location of the server you are testing from would have much of a bearing on your connection. From the results and from speaking to support I think Mark was correct in saying the congestion in the exchange could be the issue here unfortunately. The fact that it's randomly slowing down but the line stats remain solid points to congestion. One thing that may give some answers is to call technical support and ask them to do a continuous ping test while troubleshooting. This will allow them to narrow down the issue but needs to be done over the phone as it involves some testing with the connection turned off. You can call tech support on 1890 260 260 (8am - 10pm, 7 days). At this stage I would also recommend looking at the actual computer. Check for viruses/malware or any background updates or torrent programs that could be running. Try this and let us know how you get on.

Re: Slow speed/Inconsistent connection

The problem happens on multiple devices in the house (laptops, ipads, iphones, game consoles), so it's not a problem with the computer. If the problem persists I will call technical support. One thing that I just want to understand for now, is it at all possible to improve the upload speed?? Like I said before I know it isn't meant to be as fast as the download speed, but it's not even at 0.1 MB. I've seen people with around the same download speed as me (4-5 MB) who have around 0.6 MB upload speed. Mine is 0.05....if there is something you can do about this it would be appreciated.

Re: Slow speed/Inconsistent connection

Hi,

At least you can rule out the above suggestion regarding spyware/malware. With regards increasing the upload speed, when I test it here it shows that you are getting 384kbps to the main socket, which the line is definitely capable of.. 384kbps is the max upload speed on your broadband so there is room for improvement. I think as you said, tech support would be the next port of call. We've made all the remote tweaks that we can so live troubleshooting on the phone should give a better chance of getting it sorted for you.
